A sentimental Sunday

Today when I went to get Ellery from her nap, she was pointing to a picture of herself that I have framed in her bedroom. It is a picture from her 12 month photo shoot and she is sitting with three balloons and bawling. It was so hot the day we got her pictures taken and I think she was being attacked by mosquitoes so she was not the least bit happy. But the picture is actually so pitiful it is cute and so I framed it. Well, she was pointing to it and saying, "Ellery sad, Ellery crying." So I picked it up and showed it to her and she started pretending to cry like a baby, which is something she likes to mimic whenever she hears a baby crying. I thought she was pretending, but then tears just started streaming down her face. I tried to tell her that Ellery is happy now and then ended up having to take the picture out of her room. It was just so funny and sad and sweet all at the same time. Maybe she has a career in acting?

Then she wanted me to play the video I made for her daddy's birthday last year that is just pictures of her and the two of them together. We sat and watched it over and over this afternoon. Needless to say, it was a very sentimental afternoon. I started getting emotional just seeing all of her baby pictures and thinking about the fact that she will turn 2 in one month! And then I started thinking about how she won't be my baby once this little man gets here and that it will never again just be the three of us. How in the world can I love another the way I love her? Can we say pregnancy hormones in full force??

On another note, we had a wonderful weekend. We spent Saturday at a ranch near Brenham with our Sunday school class. The weather could not have been prettier and we couldn't have had a better time. Ellery was in heaven seeing all of the horses and cows, picking up rocks, and playing in the water. What a little cowgirl!

I went to the nail place to get my toes painted today and Ellery was very interested. The ladies asked if she wanted her nails done and of course, she said yes. We let her choose between three shades of pink and she picked the brightest...I think the name of it was strawberry margarita. :) She sat so still as they painted each finger and toe and even let them fan dry for about 5 minutes. She was so cute! Of course, I think only 3 painted fingers exist now after playing outside in the sand and dirt!!

Almost every night Ellery says she wants to read the Bible with daddy. Her favorite thing is pointing out all of the babies from Genesis to Revelations!

Miss Independent

Ellery has started a streak of independence. I mean she has always had it in her, but it is full force these days. Her favorite phrase right now is "No, mommy, no." I don't think it is meant in a mean way, it is just her way of telling me that she can do whatever it is she is doing by herself. And just when I start to get a little sad about it, she screams, "Mommy, I luvvv you."

Getting dressed in the mornings was getting more difficult until one day I told her that Poppy bought the outfit I was wanting her to put on. She got very excited and was dressed in no time. I guess she thought that Poppy bought all of her clothes (which isn't too far-fetched - Lulu and Poppy DO supply us with a lot of her wardrobe), so for the meantime getting dressed is no longer a chore. As we are putting on her clothes, she exclaims in the cutest little voice, "Poppy bought it!"

Today we went to the Children's Museum downtown. I have been meaning to go for the longest time and thought we needed to do it before I am huge and pregnant or with a newborn. We had a great time along with the first graders from my former elementary school, Pattison Elementary. It was so educational and fun at the same time. The highlights were a tots room with a pretend car you could drive as well as pump gas into, a grocery store full of all kinds of food and even checkout lines, and a "makeup" station. Ellery was in her element at the grocery store. She loaded up her basket with fruits, veggies, fish, milk, and eggs. She then emptied them out at the checkout line and paid at the cash register. It was too cute. The whole time I was thinking that I would have LOVED this as a child. Have I ever mentioned that a real cash register and old-fashioned credit card terminals were my favorite toys as a kid?

A family Saturday

Whew..what a productive and fun Saturday we have had! We have had this HUGE project hanging over our heads. We had to clear out our guest room closet since it is going to become our little guy's closet, which means we had to clean out our playroom closet so we could put a lot of the stuff from the guest closet into it. Our house lacks storage big time, so our guest room closet was jam packed with everything from Christmas decorations, to maternity clothes, to luggage, to purses, and so on and so on. You get the idea...not pretty.
So this morning we decided to spend a few hours at the pool which would be fun for everyone and then hopefully wear Ellery out so that we could get to work while she napped. Our plan worked great and we were able to work for about 3 hours. Then it was off to the Container Store to get some organization things. I have a love/hate relationship with that store. Every time my mom and I used to go, I would just get so frustrated and tired. Don't know exactly why but I don't have fond memories. I love all the great organization ideas, I just think people like me end up feeling overwhelmed by how UNorganized I really am.
After the store, we went to grab a bite to eat at Luby's. People who know me know that I really really dislike Luby's. I guess I just don't have fond memories of it either. Maybe it is the pregnancy, but I told Nathan if he wanted to go that he better take advantage of the opportunity, because I was willing. And it really was not that bad. I might even return. Ellery ate like a champ and left with a balloon, so she was thrilled. We had a great day just the three of us!
It is 9:30 and Nathan is still upstairs organizing his closet. It is usually me that goes crazy with a nighttime project! I am so excited to have this behind us and now the fun begins with putting together the new baby room!!

IT"S A...

BOY!!

Can you believe it? I mean this whole time I have been thinking it is a boy, but to really hear those words was crazy! We feel so incredibly blessed - everything looked great on the ultrasound and he was a very cooperative little boy, just like the first ultrasound. Let's hope this translates into a very cooperative baby!! So, all of you boy moms out there - I am going to need some major advice! What do you do with a boy?? I don't know where to begin, but I think I'll start with buying some blue! I can't wait to tell Ellery today when I pick her up from school that she is having a brother. She will be such a good (although bossy) big sis!!

We have our big ultrasound a week from tomorrow! I am so excited to see this new little one that I have just started to feel moving around. First and foremost, we pray for a HEALTHY child but I can't help but wonder if Ellery will have a little sister or brother.
