Ellery's 1st Year

Our talented and very good friend Jon made a video of Ellery's 1st year of life. It is beautiful. He also did our wedding rehearsal dinner video and does such a wonderful job. Thanks Jon, what a treasure!

If you want to view it, here is the link. You can double click on the picture and it will be bigger.

I have so many hopes and prayers for Ellery as she continues to grow older but the most important and one we pray with her every night is that she may know Christ.
"and how from infancy you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus." 2 Tim 3:15

Weekend company

This weekend Bebe and Pops came down to visit us. Ellery was very excited when she woke up from her nap and discovered we had company.

Ellery shows Pops how she can push her baby doll. This is a fairly new activity...about a week ago she wanted nothing to do with her baby and would throw it across the room.

Aunt Meredith came over on Saturday for a visit and we discovered that there is a family of little frogs overtaking the backyard. At first Ellery was quite interested in the frog.

But then she decided this bug thing really isn't for her.

Bebe and Aunt Mere giving Ellery some Sonic ice ( a Stedham family obsession). By the end of the weekend Ellery was pointing to the cups saying "Icccee."

Ellery loved getting to see Bebe, Pops, and Aunt Meredith. Come back soon!

Little Ladybug

This morning we had a trial run of Ellery's Halloween costume. I saw this costume and had to get it even though it was the middle of August.

She was definitely ready to get the costume off. Hopefully she will be more in the spirit come October!

IKEA fun

Today I ventured to IKEA for the first time ever! Well, I take that back. I did try to go once when I was pregnant but upon entering the door and seeing the maze that was in front of me, I turned right back around and headed for the car. Today I made it through and actually loved it! I found a ton of great items that I needed and some that I really didn't need but purchased anyway. I bought Ellery a tunnel for her play room, a table and chairs (so that she has something to color on now that I have introduced her to crayons and don't want them all over the carpet), and a couple of storage pieces for the playroom. My favorite purchase though is our new highchair. This highchair was $17.99, is simple and sleek, and cleans up in under 5 seconds. I have been complaining about our chicco highchair that has so many little crevices where food creeps in....cleaning it had become a chore. So when I found this one I was in, and if it falls apart (which is just may), it is not that big of a deal. I didn't even have time to go to the other sections of the store but can't wait until my next opportunity. I was even able to purchase a 79 cents cold drink at the check-out...woo hoo...my kind of store. My only real hang up was trying to exit. I was a little confused about how to get my shopping cart to the car. Turns out you have to bring your car to the shopping cart. Next time I'll know. I am off to go do something fun for the night instead of my nightly chore of scrubbing the highchair.

Meet Fatty

This week and weekend have been rather quiet in comparison to the past four. It has actually been nice to relax a little and be at home. We did have some fun tonight dressing up our dog Colby. Ellery found it quite hilarious that he was wearing her top. I don't think Colby thought it was funny at all.

Meet Colby, aka Fatty. I don't think I have ever posted about him but we love our little Colby-man. Before Ellery he was definitely the baby of the family. Everyone said that once she came along he would take a backseat and I refused to believe it. Unfortunately, everyone was correct and the days of taking Colby along with me in the car on "joy" rides to Sonic or to the do-it-yourself doggy wash are over. It makes me a little sad when I think about it, but then I remind myself of all the perks that have been bestowed on C-man since the little drama queen has been around.

He definitely has scored in the food department. All the food that doesn't manage to stay on the highchair tray or in her mouth are his for the taking. He has had the privilege of tasting foods that he never would have if it weren't for E. There is mac and cheese, chicken dogs, peas and an assortment of veggies, and a ton of fruit (although he will not touch bananas, must be the texture). Even an occasional goldfish, cookie, or graham cracker. In addition to food, he now has many more toys at his disposal. His favorites include ducks, anything that squeaks, and balls. He will take the balls and get them stuck under everything - sofas, beds, etc. Ellery and I are constantly retrieving balls for Colby - and yes, it has become a little game for her. It is so funny when she puts her little bottom up in the air and bends down to locate them. I will have to get a picture for you. There are also bubbles. Colby LOVES bubbles and Ellery loves to giggle at Colby trying to catch the bubbles in his mouth. Finally, Colby gets double the treats. Ellery loves to hand Colby's treats to him and has lately been teasing him by showing him his treat and then hiding it, then putting it in front of his face and running away. It is funny but not so nice. As you may have guessed, Colby is putting on some weight these days. We were trying to take him on more walks but that has slowed down since it has been raining and scorching hot here the last month. And not to mention, walking on a leash ranks as one of Colby's least favorite activities. I used to lose my patience with him when I was out pushing the stroller and walking him - he always ended up in the bottom part of the stroller and there I was, pushing my two babies!

I can't say that Colby is super fond of Ellery but she is definitely growing on him everyday. Sometimes when I can't find him anywhere in the house, I will open the door to Ellery's room where she is napping and he will be catching some zzzz's himself.

Ellery leaning in to kiss Colby. Notice her mis-matched pj's....by the time it is bedtime she has drooled so much on her shirt that it is soaked and we end up changing her. I think we will try starting off with mis-matched pj's after her bath so that by bedtime she will be matching!

We were having fun with Colby outside.

I will leave you with this one...happy girl! Oh and Happy Birthday Poppy!

Going to the chapel...

Our cousin Jill that is. We were in Wichita, Kansas this past weekend for the wedding of Jill and Brad. Turns out that all this time Paige and I were trying to convince her that Texas guys are by far the studliest men around...she was truly listening. We love that Jill ended up with not only a Texas boy, but a Texas boy from Katy! Very ironic I know.
It was a whirlwind weekend but so much fun. There was rehearsal dinner on Friday night, wedding on Saturday night, and brunch on Sunday. We decided to let Ellery tag along to her first wedding and she absolutely loved it. She would go hang out by the speakers and start dancing to the music and she sampled her first wedding cake. She tried her hardest to not miss a moment and successfully fought off sleep until around 10:30.
We stayed at my grandparents' house and Ellery was truly spoiled with Mema's famous scrambled eggs every morning.

Signing for more eggs, Mema!

Looking sneaky

By the end of the week Ellery was saying "meme" and "papa"

She threw a fit when we tried to put her in this dress but once it was on, she started twirling. Can we say drama mama?

We love getting to spend time with Taylor and Paige.

Fun in the sand

I am so excited to announce that one of my close friends decided to join the blogging world. Everyone check out The Meltons blog and you can see pictures of sweet Madikate. Tiffany and I kept running into each other before we actually became friends. I would see her working out or at church and even mentioned to Nathan that I should really introduce myself to this girl because I could just sense that we would be friends. Well...our formal introduction was in the mother's room at church where we realized our baby girls are 2 weeks apart and it took off from there. I was right about my intuition...we became fast friends as well as our husbands and girls. We are so blessed by this family!

Today Ellery was introduced to sand at Lupe Tortillas. At first, she acted very dainty, not quite sure of the way the sand felt between her toes. She stayed off to the side and played with this one yellow sea horse.

But then her true personality came out and she decided to hang with the big kids. Right in the middle! That's our girl!

She decided to try her hand at sand castle building and even stole a sand bucket...

Is this like a chain letter?

I just discovered that I have been "tagged" as they call it in blogging land. There are rules to this tag that include:

1. I have to post these rules before I give you the facts.
2. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog and post these rules.
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

So, here it goes...8 random things about me:
1. I love rain. It is my favorite type of weather.
2. I really dislike animated movies. I have never been into them. I never watched cartoons as a kid either. I guess
I am going to have to start liking them with a toddler at home. :)
3. My husband says that I say the words "crayon" and "orange" very wrong.
4. On that note, my family knows that I have my own language...my Kristen-isms as they like to call them.
5. I started eating a vegetarian diet after Ellery was born and have not looked back. I love this way of life and even my mom joined me on our pledge to save the animals!!
6. I like to wash my feet and put lotion on them before I get into bed. Sometimes I even put socks on my feet to really let the lotion sink in.
7. Just the other day I saw the new school supply section in target and I got giddy. I LOVED picking out new pencils, pens, spirals, folders, etc. Dorky.
8. I am slightly obsessed with dental hygiene. I have never really had a cavity and I am a stickler about flossing. Until recently I wore my after-braces retainers from junior high every night. What is scary is that I think I have passed this trait onto my husband.

Okay so I am not sure who I am tagging next but will let you know if you are it. I guess that is not really playing by the rules, but then again I have never been good at chain letters.

Back to the lake

We just got back from a weekend at the lake, AGAIN, but this time with great friends the Clark's and also my family, including Paige and her friend Katie. The weather was gorgeous and we were able to get the boat out several times and swim until we were pruned. We LOVE the lake and mainly because it is a place where family and friends are always gathered. Ellery really enjoyed getting to play with little Taylor (15 months) and Emily (3 years). When she first saw Emily she grabbed onto her and would not let go. She definitely liked having a big sister for the weekend.

Ellery was in rare form on our way home from the lake Sunday night. We left at 7pm thinking that she would fall asleep pronto because of her sun-filled, busy day. Well...she did not fall asleep until Katy (which is about 20 minutes from Houston). She was not crying or whining however. She was giggling, singing her "1 Little 2 Little 3 Little Indian Song", and practicing her language skills the entire way. Nathan and I are quite certain she was delirious and we found ourselves laughing as well. It was also in Katy that we discovered we had left something behind. What was it? Not clothes, not a cell phone, not even our dog, but our house keys and garage opener. (We switched cars with my parents so that Ellery could watch videos on the way home and didn't think to switch those things as well). My parents are coming home tomorrow with our car and so....here I am at my parents' house on the computer. And our weekend vacation continues....
